Hello, my name is Daren Hatfield. Welcome to the website of Daystar
Cockers!
Daystar is a prefix name that I chose to honor my faith and belief in our
Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. So, the Daystar name will be added to any
cocker I ever breed.
MY BACKGROUND
I am currently 43 years young, and reside in Bainbridge, Georgia, on the
beautiful Lake Seminole. I am a teacher and nurse in the state of Florida.
I live approximately 3 miles from the Florida line, so it's easier for me to drive
in to Florida than to drive some 30+ miles in to Bainbridge for work.
I grew up in Florida, in a small town called Eastpoint (Franklin County).
Our county is more famously known for its great seafood that is harvested from the Apalachicola Bay.
We like to refer to our county as being the "Seafood Capitol of the World."
My parents are the late, Milton Hatfield, and Glenda Hatfield. While growing up, they owned a small
seafood business and shipped seafood primarily to the Florida and Georgia areas. My dad was a
very hard worker and I miss him dearly. My mother was, of course, the secretary and bookkeper for
the business. My mother is retired now and enjoying her 8 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. My
mother is my heart, and probably the best friend I have ever had.
We had a strong upbringing in the holiness faith, and my grandfather (Odis Millender) played a
significant role in contributing to our beliefs and values. He loved to preach and played several
musical instruments. He taught me how to play the guitar, but my major instrument is piano. My
mother played piano for the church and led the song services. To say the least, I have a very loving
and God-fearing family. I'm thankful for the love of God that was instilled in me!
COCKER SPANIEL BACKGROUND
It was at age 12 that cocker spaniels came into my life. My brother and I had a buff and a black/white
cocker. Through AKC (The American Kennel Club), I was able to track down these two dogs by
searching for their names. These two precious babies were:
1.) Daren's Honeybun, #SD095602, DOB: 01/21/1981, Color: Buff
2.) Ray's Patches of Love (Named after my brother), #SD159137, DOB: 05/01/1981 (No pic)
think back about the two cockers we first owned, I know that they were nothing more than pet quality.
But we loved our babies and continue to love this breed to this day.
At 12 years old, I was instroduced to the show world through a friend's mother who showed
Dobermans. I would watch her lead training and then go home and practice on my cockers.
Through the years, I've always had a cocker in my life. And, in March, 2009, my two sons and I
decided that we wanted to show. I felt it would be clean, descent fun and enable us to learn more
about this wonderful breed.
So, we obtained our first show cocker from Kris & Desire' LeBrene at SugarFrance Cockers. They
patiently answered all of our numerous questions, so we bought Jordan (a gorgeous r/w boy). Jordan
is now our first, male champion. Even today (if needed), Kris & Desire are there when needed! I'm
proud to call them our friends!
Our cockers are not kenneled and live in our home as a part of our family. They are an active part of
our lives. One of them is always with us. Our handlers say we have some of the sweetest, loving
cockers they have seen. They are truly, big lap babies!
DAYSTAR'S MENTOR
Along my journey, I've had some wonderful people who have guided
and directed me. However, I quickly learned that it was important to only
listen to one person. I'm grateful for the friendships and valuable information
that was obtained.
The mentor for Daystar Cockers is Bea Pruitt (PBJ Cockers). Bea is a
friend and wonderful advisor! At PBJ Cockers, Bea's knowledge and
experience with cockers is sensational; and it shows in the rings!
Additionally, Bea's knowledge supercedes in genetics. She has the
extreme capability to put together the right lines that have produced her
numerous champions.
A million thanks goes out to Bea & Jamey Pruitt for sticking with me and
continuing to have faith in me!
MY SONS
Besides my love and passion for showing, is my love for my two sons. They do some Junior Handing
and show our champions. My sons are Lee (15), and Jacob (12).
You can see more pictures of Lee & Jacob under the "JUNIOR HANDLERS" tab.
We, and Daystar Cockers, are dedicated to acknowledging God's greatness, mercy, and love in
everything we do! We only plan to breed every couple of years to improve the breed and acquire
future show prospects. All of our cockers are OFA'd and CERF's are done annually.
Thank you for visiting our site! Please browse around and enjoy! Feel free to email us with any
questions or comments: we welcome them!
